Can't Program Radius P200

Post by gregwa8dli »

I have several Radius P200 high band radios that I'am trying to program. I have al rib box and the cablr that hooks up to the p200. I starup the computer in DOS and bring up the p200 software. I bring up the menu choice F3 to view read or change. The next menu that comes uo I select F2 to read the code plug. Up in the upper right box it tells me ther is a serial buss error #011. I've tried different rib boxs different cables an different radios. I've also tried 3 different coputers. I cant find any reference as to what the 011 error means? I have 6 of these radios I would like to program to the local ham channels.

What type of computers are you using? What speed and CPU platform?

Do you have an old 386 or 486 based computer that you can try?

What radios do you own?: CDM's, CP's, CM's, and more

Somewhere in the software, there should be a place to pick your comm port. A serial buss error generally means that your computer is sending data to a different port than the software is looking for. If you have a computer with real serial ports, the rib commonly connects to Comm 1 or Comm 2.

Hi gang- well I'll try to reply to all your questions
first of all the computers I used were pentium they have worked with other radios OK of course it used a different Rib to radio cable.
Ive tried both com 1 and com 2. I've tried various baud rated and reply types with no luck. The com 2 port gives a different error code ( 031 ). When I check the device manager it tells me the serial port is working OK. I tried erasing the p200 software and reloading it. To date I;am very frustrated. PLEASE HELP

Your P200 RSS is likely very old...pre 90's possibly. Even though most other radio RSS packages can work with Pentium computers (provided you are using the latest RSS version available) the P200 package is simply too old. You'll likely need a slow 386 to get it to work.

Look for the latest HT600 RSS, it works on most Pentium computers.

HT600 RVN-4005G Mar-94 Yes, Pentium Compatible reads from and writes to P200, saves codeplugs but in the HT600 Model format.

Something additional- I hooked up a GM300 to the same rib box and Rib to computer cable. Loaded the GM-300 software and it works fine?

So you've validated the computer & RIB setup, which is good. As we've said, your RSS is too old & isn't Pentium compatible. You need the newest HT600 RSS which Will outlined. Even then, it can be dicey & your mileage may vary.
