Model number revision letter

Post by kcbooboo »

Much of the older equipment that has the 11-12 character model number, uses the 11th character as a revision letter. For example, an MSF5000 could be C74CXB7106AT or C74CXB7106BT, where "A" or "B" is the revision letter. I've seen radios with both "A" and "B" revisions (MaraTracs and MaxTracs, for example) and they look identical.

So what's the difference between those two stations? I've worked on plenty and can't say I've ever noticed anything grossly different. Many times "A" means "earlier" and "B" means "later". But what determines which it is?

Anyone have any thoughts or can point out some obvious differences?

Thanks.

I want to say that one version is the repeater, the other version is the base station. I seem to recall having read that somewhere.

On the MSF5000, they add a 12th character "T" for a repeater station and omit it for a base station.
