GM300 Initialize

Post by wiredwrx »

I recently was forced to blank and re-initialize a GM300. In re-initalizing the radio, it asks me to input the "Crysal Date,""Tuning Data," and "Measured 9.60." I have reviewed the service manual, and can't figure out where to obtain/locate the information requested. Anyone have any ideas.

Pop open the radio. Look under the shield on the RF side. The crystal data is printed on the crystal, the tuning data is hand written on a tag, and you have to measure the 9.6 on the feed through connector between the RF and main boards.

Hello:
I myself have not run into the need to do the GM300 reinitiation but have done many Maxtracs.
If itll help the op I do have the detailed reinitiation procedure for the maxtrac 5 or 16 pin logic bd.
I can email it to anyone if they pm me there email address .
If someone wants and would like to post montys reintiation info sheet for the 5 or 16 pin bds id be more than happy to send it so it could be posted here for all.
Just a side note I do have the Canadian maxtrac 99 ch mobiles items needed to make the Ontario max 99 ch mobile too.
I have the max99 info and components to be able to burn the max99 VS5.35 prom and you need to move jumpers on back side of logic bd and replace the memory chip with the larger 28c64 chip ect.
I have that info written down from start to finish.
But back to the GM300 reinitation= The program should ask for a panel number for the front face with buttons so it can reinitiate per the proper control head.
And from my notes its not the same panel number as the multi ch maxtrac which is #001 for maxtracs.
The GM300 per my notes using a multi ch control front is panel #005.
The M120 2ch control fronts panel number is #004.
If you check back to member wavetar for a post (You can now initialize GM300`s... ) dated june 2nd 2006 he has info that you might want to read up on.
And another method is you can reiniate as a maxtrac using maxtrac program but you will need to make one mod in the gm300 and that is you unsolder pin 8 on the audio ic and solder in line a 100 k ohm resister to restore audio.
You also remove the GM300 prom and put in the 5.34 maxtrac prom.
Another draw back is the audio will be inverted which WILL NOT be heard with normal conversation but it will invert the dpl code so you will need to program the dpl codes compliment per chatrs found on it or select inverted DPL and itll work fine.
My advice is to reiniate as GM300 === But if you do decide to reiniate a GM300 as a Maxtrac then
DO NOT USE THE GM300 PANEL Code USE MAXTRAC PANEL CODE #001 since your making it a maxtrac and you would also from then on use the maxtrac program to program and reinitate.
Id recommend reinitiating as a GM300 if at all possible.
From what info I found the tuning info given for the maxtrac is the same procedure for the GM300 so you should be able to use the maxtrac reiniation sheet I have.
My question is since the op has already blanked the GM300 will he need a mdf file to reiniate or can he still do wavetars method I refered to above he posted way back in 2006 ?
Its my thought he might have an issue with the GM300 program with reinitiate since logic bd is blank and from factory the GM300 bd wasn't truly blanked but had info to allow initiation.
Am I thinking wrong or whats the deal with that - I don't recall just what it was now.
Thanx Satelite
