I recently installed an A9 head spectra. I found that the radio would stay powered on regardless of the ignition setting. I double checked the wiring and it is correct since it inhibits my siren when the ignition is off. I looked at the service manual in the A5/7 section and saw that there is a JU1 and JU2 that control the ignition and power on of the radio. However, when I looked in the A9 section there was no mention of this that I saw. The only thing that I saw was JU1 and JU2 influence the EEPROM size. Is this the same JU1 and JU2? Do I have to just add JU1 to have the radio shut off with the ignition?? Thanks a lot

I don't know alot about the Spectra series, but the ignition sense wire for the Syntor 9000 only inhibits the TX mode for the radio, and maybe shuts off the siren, although I haven't played with it that far. I imagine that is the case with the Spectra as well, but, only speculation on my part.

I believe you can set the ingition sense function with the RSS, but I don't have it right in front of me to check. I'll look tomorrow at work. Both the orange & green wires from the control head have to be wired to ignition.

The orange lead will disable the TX function only. The green lead will turn the whole radio off. Usually both are tied to the same point for power.

This is not correct. I specifically checked the service manual. As I mentioned in addition to RSS options and in addition to orange and green wiring there is also jumpers in the control head that can be adjusted. I am positive in an A5/A7 setting but am unsure inthe A9

According to the Spectra 9000 Installation Manual (68-80102W83) 57Shasta is correct.

There is a radio functions vs. green and orange wires table on page 3. Green controls the entire radio - orange is transmitter ignition sense.

Does this mean that unlike the A5/A7 it does not require constant to ensure that the memmory (ie last mode/last illumination state/volume etc...) is kept? The way I had found with the other heads was that ignition turned on and off and the other wire kept the memmory much the same way as in a car stereo. This table with the control head jumpers I was referring to was in the spectra service manual for the A5/7 and I did not see it in the A9 model, hence my question. Thanks all

Not 100% sure, but I believe those parameters are stored in the radio. The radio gets constant power from the main power cable. This A+ is sent to the command board where an unswitched 5 v. is developed & applied to the processor, etc.

Syntor X 9000 also works that way. There was a PSB several years back for memory loss in Syntor X9000 because of voltage drop on the red lead when starting the vehicle. I think it was fixed by adding a diode on the personality board.

All,
I rewired the orange and green and sure enough it worked. The reason for the confusion was that the other heads per the service manual are jumper configurable in addition to what they showed in the installation manual. They also needed constant power to remember settings. Apparently as was pointed out to me the A9 draws power from the regular constant power.... I dont know the reason for the differance. In any case it worked, thanks all for the suggestions.
