Using FCC TOWAIR site

Post by arlojanis »

When using TOWAIR determination, how long does it take to get a reply? Is the reply just from a computer, or does a person research and do a study?

TOWAIR is an instant determination in the sense that if it says you need registration, you probably need registration. That's all TOWAIR does, is tell if you have to register the structure. As part of the structure registration, they'll do a study (likely automated but with a human to review) to determine whether or not the structure presents an obstruction hazard and whether or not any additional safety features will be required, like structure painting or top lighting or so forth

Just because TOWAIR says a determination is needed isn't necessarily true

I have a customer with a returned application right now, the FCC says it appears to require registration

The coordinator forgot to submit an attachment noting the antenna would be entirely enclosed within the building, would not be externally visible, and would not increase or alter the profile of the structure in any way. Ostensibly this should get us around FAA involvement, but knowing the FCC those idiots will still want us to register the tripod that will sit on the guy's bed in his hotel room.....................
