M1225 Discriminator Audio

Post by TARRA_Mick »

Hello Group, looking for where I can tap the discriminator audio directly in a M1225. I am trying to use a pair of these radios for D-STAR and from what I have been told the audio isn't very good. Not sure if this is a receive or transmit issue. I have heard the audio on the 1 pin connector isn't really true discriminator. Still trying to find a good service manual to look. Anyone having some information that will help, I'd like to hear from you!

Pin 1 is one half of the speaker audio

Try Pin 11

Pin 11 is can be programmed as "unmuted/flat audio". Not sure if that is really discriminator. They say the M1225 has bad audio so I am wondering if I can do something to improve it so I can still use the M1225s for this project.

Pin 11 is as close as you'll get in the Maxtrax/Radius product line for discriminator audio. Normally it sounds perfect. So, if yours sounds bad, something is wrong.

Well, I know the GM300 has a jumper for digital. Since I don't have mine up and running yet, just going by what others have said about using this model of radio. I haven't hear it so I don't know. Just trying to have an idea of what to do for it if I need to. Also wonder if I set the radio for narrowband if that may help too?

Repeater Builder has a whole page devoted to the Maxtrac/Radius series radios. You may find it useful.

If your link radio is running wideband to drive a DStar, and your friends say it sounds lousy, then perhaps you are overdriving the input. Switching to pin 11 should help, and programming for narrowband might also help.

No. Stop using the speaker audio. Use the flat audio on pin 11. The speaker pins are expecting 8 ohm speakers. I'll bet your audio interface isn't 8 ohms. If it sounds bad it's very likely because you're doing it wrong

I'm not using speaking audio (and didn't say anything about using it). I am using pin 11. Sorry, that was never a part of my question.
