MT1000 "Dead" After battery Issue

Post by danlewis »

My MT1000 VHF 8 channel HT was working fine for some months. It was in the charger and turned on overnight when the battery overheated and died. The radio seemed DOA so I started reading here and other places.

I replaced the battery. The voltage is getting into the radio but when the radio is turned on there is no audible sound. I removed the case and shield and then unplugged the two white plugs. I then plugged in the face and powered up. A long string of codes beeped away at me.

I tried to uplug the two white plugs again and to program the radio. Always a serial bus error with the same computer and cable I have used many times to program this radio. I tried every combination of plugged/unplugged for the cables and tried the left cable pin7 grounding trick.

If anyone has further suggestions on reviving this radio please suggest! Thank you.

Update -- after repeating the above steps a few more times the radio now functions and the original program is intact. However, when I connect the RIBless cable, the same one that I have previously used successfully to program the radio, the radio starts beeping away with some apparent alarm codes. This is even with no computer attached. Any theories or instruction that can be offered are appreciated. Yes, I know that a real RIB is better. But might this still occur, even with a real RIB?

Thanks.
