Yes Motorola date codes batteries. Located on different area's depending on the battery. A '302' date code would be manufactured in second (02) month of 2003 (3), which is impossible to have a battery with this code right now.

As far as 'post-date' the batteries, not that I have seen, but if you have some moto batteries, then this is probably the case. Anyone else know if this is common practice with Moto?

Its the date for warranty purposes... projected out so-many weeks from date of manufacture.. how many i don't know.
Its a good guild line in any case.

I have seen this several times as well -
My /\/\ salesman told me the same thing that Perthcom said - it's a warranty base date, not a manufacture date.

We got new batteries at work a couple of weeks ago and they all had 302 on them as well.

My information on Moto Battery date coding is the first digit is the year and the second and third digits are the week the battery was made; so 302 would be a battery made in the 2nd week of October 2002.

Moto's dating year begins 1 October thru 30 September, not 1 Jan - 31 Dec. So a battery dated 301 would have been made in the first week of October 2002.

All the batteries made by Motorola I've ordered for years have followed this format. Just ordered a dozen (directly from Motorola's plant in Plantation, Fl) last month and they are all dated 302. 8)

Unless Motorola has moved to another format the format they have used for the past 35 years has been to date stamp batterys with the year and week ending period for warranty purposes. A battery date coded 302 would have an expiration date for warranty 1 year from that date ie second week of 2004. It is not unusual for them to post date by a few weeks to allow for their shelf time and delivery time.

So let me get this straight. A 302 date code would be the year first in this case 2003, then the week ? Am I correct ?

Well, sort of. it would be xxx3 2nd week. could be 1993 or 2003 :D I had an guy at Dayton try to sell me toasted batteries from 10 years ago for $.50, he said "just call Motorola and they will replace it under their 1 year warranty.

i had a defective 1250 battery recently, i sent it is and they sent me a post dated battery, for 2003, i think it was 302 or 310, something like that. i know the date codes and that definately is saying 2003 2nd week or 10 being 10th week.
