??If you bothered to compare the housings of the two radios you'd see there's not enough real estate on the smaller XPR3000 series to accommodate the latch the 6000/7000 connector uses. I can see no design reason why Motorola decided to change the accessory socket pin layout...the XPR3500 is around the same width as the XPR7550 so there is plenty of space.
