R2600 service manual????

Post by bwigg »

I searched the world over and can not find a service manual on the R2600 series. What is so special about this series? The R200X and R22XX seem to be easy to find as well as the HP8920's.

Anybody know of a available PDF for the R2600???

Service manuals for the R2600 series are available for purchase from General Dynamics in both hard copy and pdf format.

Ok Thanks,

I looked around the website and didn't see much info about older service monitors. I will have to give them a call.

I've been looking for one for years. A few weeks ago I came across it on ebay, I ordered one, a R2600 service manual on DVD from China, I'll post here what I think of it when it arrives.

Received the manual on CD today, It's in jpeg, pity it's not PDF but can live with it. Had a quick look at it and so far it looks good. Will have a more detailed look over the weekend and post my findings back here.

Hi bwigg and all,
I've gone through the CD and it seems to have all the info one would need to carry out repairs, As I said before it's in JPEG format and it seems to be JPEG's of a photocopy of the manual. The text pages and block diagrams are very easy to read but the schematics are not of very good definition. but so far you can make out the ones I have looked at, but it's a pity they're not better for my ageing eyes. I'll report back when I get to sort out the problem on my R2600B, Mike ei2dj / g4gxn

Hi bwigg,
In the introduction in the Service Manual under General Description it states, The R2550 and R2600 Analyzers offer different levels of features and price selections. The R2500 and R2600 analyzers perform the tests normally associated with,
Modulation Oscilloscope
General purpose Oscilloscope,
Spectrum Analyzer,
AC / DC Digital voltmeter,
Distortion/SINAD meter,
RF Watt meter / Signal level meter,
Duplex Generator,
MultiMode Code Synthesizer,
DTMF encoder / decoder,

Additionally the R2600 includes the following,
Frequency Counter,
TwoTone, 5/6 tone paging encoder/decoder,
Select V encoder/decoder,
Auto ranging AC/DC voltmeter,
External RGB video monitor port,
Selectable Audio Post-detection filtering,
Custom baseband filters,
Print screen function inc. graphics,

So it looks like the R2550 is a down market version of the 2600, so I think the Manual will cover it.
Hope this helps you
Best regards Mike ei2dj/g4gxn

I plan on checking my R2600C built in 1997 for leaking capacitors today. Which boards need to be looked at and where are they located? A drawing or picture would help a lot.

Thanks for the update on the manual. I have the Ebay one on the way, it should be here in few days.

I found another party in the UK (John Dosher) who had an older r2600 manual for a little cheaper and he emailed it to me. Using r2600 manual I discovered my machine has a dead A7 High synthesizer.

Its a little hard to nail down the exact problem on the A7 board without an extender card and something that can measure freq in the 3ghz range.

Not sure what you mean ...no receive audio or de-mod scope for any mode ? AM FM and either bandwidth ?

Does it generate OK with modulation ?

You would be better to start a new thread if you want repair help vs. just trying to get a service manual.

Danie:

When you say demodulator, does it look like it is receiving (something), but no volume, no squelch, no modulation display? A beep is heard on power-up so the speaker and audio amp are working.

IF so, there were two previous topics from 2012 and 2014 that may be of help - "2600 help needed" and "Squelch on MOTOROLA R 2600".
Sorry, I can't remember how to quote the specific topics.

Basically, there is a problem on the Audio Board in slot 10. One of the more common problems a few users have seen is caused by leaking electrolytic capacitors on the Audio board. There are only two, but one or both can cause the problem. Essentially, one or more traces get damaged. One of them opens at a plate-thru, and the open is not apparent as the trace is in between PCB layers.

If this looks like what is happened, a simple repair may be possible. I use the word may because if the damage is confined to the audio board and not the backplane connector, then luck is on your side.

Pull the audio board and look near the edge connector. If traces near the two caps are discolored, then suspect corrosion.

PM me if you need more info on this.

Hi,
does anyone have service manual for 2600D? Or at least diagram for display board?
After power-on fan starts, beep from loudspeaker and short flash from ant and gen leds and lines in all colors on the screen. Backup battery and reference oscillator are OK. Any ideas?

bad video card. This is typically the PowerPC processor ....may need a PCB re-ball/rework.
Anybody remember the XBOX 360 issues ? Guess what processor they used 8)

Help, I have a R2670 which had a symptom of morning sickness, it would reboot when cold and then it was okay after warming up. Now it does not boot and no screen. It gives me 1 beep, pause, 3 beeps, pause and 1 beep. Power supply is good except for 40 volt is giving 34 volts. I have a hard copy of the R2600 maintenance manual but it says nothing about audible error codes.

Thanks

Sounds like the CPU control board. I had the same issue and sent my r2660d to be refurbished for $1339.00

Has to do with the internal temperature of the unit. If it's freezing cold and you bring it in you will have to re-run recalibrate a number of times as the system warms up. If you google the manual it'll explain it better than my posting. I think repeater builder might have one that shows up from time to time.

there was a procedure ...believe here on this board ...to set the CAL temperatures.

Unit keeps a cold set of CAL and a WARM set IIRC.

First step in fixing or troubleshooting any R26XX is to clear the NVRAM which forces it back through re-creating the CAL tables as well
