Motorola Qauntar Receiver module Qestion

Hello
I have a Motorola Qauntar repeater in 800mhz that on the control module says rx failure.
The rx module is a 1530a number on it.
Im wanting to know if i pull the rx module and replace it with a known good module will it work as is since same module number ect or does the reapeter need to be reprogrammed for the new rx module?
Im told by another he beleives the programming is in the controller module and that the rx module doesnt need any programming just plug in another working rx module with same number ect.
Is this true or false ?
