Spectra A-3 HHCH question

Post by wb0qqk »

Does anyone know if a VHF Spectra (D43KXA7JA3BK) with Securenet option, can be modified to do repeater talk-around? I can enable it in the frequency programming, but cannot find a way to switch it on/off at the HHCH. I have the Securenet disabled and do not intend to use it. Thanks!

Excellent Question...

Hmmm, no answer in 4 years? Yikes. :) Well, I'm trying to do the same thing with exactly the same model number. Did you ever get this figured out? I'm guessing since the Dir position doubles as the 0 (securenet) position, the answer is negative talk around in a secure-capable radio. Thanks for any light you can shed. --Jeff

Why don't you just do it the simple way, adding a second version of each mode, in talkaround instead of repeater operation?

You only have to switch one channel over to get to direct operation, then.

Or, maybe you can use a repeat/direct function on the HHCH if you mode slave the securenet option.

I'm not too familiar with the Spectra HHCH, actually.

What radios do you own?: Motorola, Icom, Sunair (HF).

The reason there was no answer for so long is probably because so few people use the HHCH.

Anyway... From what I've seen, the combination you describe is not possible outside of programming a separate mode for the talkaround position. The switch that controls 'Secure' or 'Clear' operation in a secure-capable radio is the same switch that gets used for 'Repeat' or 'Direct' in a standard radio. Both functions cannot be combined into said switch.

Happy tweaking.

After checking with the local MSS, I opted to buy a
non-secure A-3 Spectra. I installed the one I wanted
to modify in a vehicle that is rarely driven just to have
some method of communication.
