Head and Tail Light Wiring Diagram For Crown Victoria

Post by F1118 »

I have a 99 CR LX. I also have wig wags that I was going to install in the head and tail lights. Does anyone have or know where I can get the wiring diagrams for those. Also I read some things about tail light flashers that could cause me some problems. Can someone give me their opinion on that?

Thanks

Check with the manufacturer of the flasher(s) to see if they are compatable. Their web sites usually have wiring diagrams.

I recently went to install an alt/head flasher on a 2002 Police Tahoe and on a whim e-mailed Whelen to see if the flasher was compatable, it wasn't.

Had I gone ahead with the install following the written instructions it would have trashed the vehicle computer to the tune of $2,200. It seems the daytime running lights are negative switched and the headlights are positive switched and the two systems are tied together somehow.

Glad I checked..... :-?

CRV's don't have day light running lamps so that would not be a problem.

02 and earlier Tahoes are easy! If I told you, I'd have to kill you- twice.

03s are easier yet!

Make sure you flasher is compatable with a Ford. There is a ton a different flashers on the market.. standard, ground side, DLR.

There is an issue with the tail light flashers. Make sure its a diode protected flasher designed for a that purpose.

Headlights are easy.. Green with black is the highbeam. Look on the back of the headlight plug.

Tail lights are a whole another deal.. I havent done one in almost 2 yrs but I know the LX and the Interceptor have different colors.

I know the thin black with a pink trace in the harness going up the trunk lid is the reverse.

For brake I believe its Green with orange.

Tail lights are grn/orn and orn/grn, but if this can't be figured out on your own with a logic probe or test light.....um.....do you really want to try to do this yourself?

Headlights are grn/blk. On the '03 Vic, there is a left side high beam disconnect behind the grille. SOLDER your WW wires directly to the cut loop on the connector.

Use a REAL flasher for the rears and not some el-cheapo Gall's special. If you backfeed the brake circuit, two things can happen:
1. You will allow the shifter to be pulled from PARK without our foot on the brake.

2. Depending on the brakelight switch, you will send a BOO signal (brake signal) to the PCM/TCM causing the torque converter to unlock and also disable the cruise control- not that you should have cruise engaged during emergency driving!

One must watch on some cars when installing the Bflashers into the reverse lights, as backfeed can also cause the TCM to see a reverse engage signal and think that while driving down the road, somebody accidentally dropped the shifter into REVERSE. If this type of backfeed occurs, the TCM will knock the tranny valve body into NEUTRAL to prevent driveline damage. A 6A barrel diode works great for this. '03 Trailblazers are a victim of this game.

hidaway kit

Post by F1118 »

I think I'll just buy a hidaway kit for the back. Seems like it would be much safer.

You can also get "Hide-Away Halogen" kits. Same as a strobe kit but they use 50w Halogen pop-in bulbs and any old flasher. They are cheaper than the strobes if you want a less expensive option.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"
