Well this thread has gone on quite amusingly for the better part of a month....

I have some questions.... only to staisfy some morbid curiousity... and add to the excitement.

If you are making so much progress... do you have any pictures to show us of the progress? Most of us here that have worked on cars and way to proud of our work and are enough of a showoff to showcase our works in progress.

2nd... to throw some salt in a wound... Returning to the first thread.... you didn't look at your truck prior to breaking out the drill to look for some minor details... like the A/C Condenser? Did you nic the Radiator as well? I guess we'll find out when you blow your head gasket after overheating the car....

3rd... With all the experience you tout? You don't know how to properly install an NMO mount? nuff said.

4th... from a different thread... 40 feet by 40 feet.... don't gain any weight.... you won't be able to fit your tower... your 53 foot trailer for an outhouse and an underground fallout shelter... or whatever you talked about doing. You'll never fit all the equipment you need to build your site... sounds like your postage stamp might have originally been a peice of the Brooklyn Bridge.... and you bought the whole damn thing... so since you have the cash flying around I need to re-finance my house.... care to share?

Its not completed yet (mainly need to add a VHF MCS2000 and LED Arrowstick - but if you are so intrigued to see pics, I will snap some tomorrow. And to the rest, well, I dont respond to bashing. Thanks for trying though!

I agree...and with the nightmare I went through when buying a Syntor from this guy, I would venture to guess that he's not well organized. Glad I live on the other coast.

Honesty goes a LONG way even it isn't good news. I would much rather have someone say "Yea, I screwed up and lied, I won't do it again". That way, people can at least see that you have admitted your wrong and aren't pretending.

That is as opposed to beating around the bush, ignoring legitimate questions, and pretending like nothing is or ever has been wrong when it is really obvious that is not the case. Most intelligent people can see right through it and REMEMBER it in the future too.

I'm not saying this is or isn't taking place here, take it however you want. Just always remember the last line of the second paragraph above.

Hopefully, it wont be remembered that way, Matt. Let me explain a couple of things:

1. A/C COndenser. The unit on newer style Tahoes is in front of the radiator. In front of that is a horizontal brace towards the bottom of the unit - perfect for mounting a speaker to. THat brace is about an inch or inch and a half from the A/C Condenser. Thinking it would be safe to drill, since it was a horizontal object (or so I thought) I drilled without removing the bracket. Bad decision, the brace had been tweaked slightly, angling it towards the vehicle, making the drill bit slip and nicking the A/C Condenser. I did in no way come close to drilling "through" it as some have stated. I just nicked the membrane and made a very, very small hole as to which the unit lost pressure slowly. I found out the next morning when I saw a puddle of green stuff under the vehicle, thats how slow it was. Its not like I drilled through the trunk and into the gas tank, or through the tranny hump into the driveshaft (Ive read about both of those stories here

)

2. As to the NMO mount, yes I know how to mount them and yes, I have done them before, but mostly on cars, not SUVs or trucks. On cars I am able to reach the roof of the vehicle, on my Tahoe I could not get to the center of the roof without standing on it, so I thought I could just go through the bottom. I already had the headliner dropped so I attempted to insert the unit from the bottom, not exactly comtemplating what would happen if I did that. when it barely did not fit, I just deicded to dremel out the hole. I didnt even think about coming in from the top as it was not easily accesible. After I made the post, I was thinking about it and it hit me.

3. I do not have any contracts with any law enforcement agencies for installations. I have done some installs for the local County DOT however. I have also worked with some installers for local law enforcement agencies. I am in the process of getting my dealerships (already have Nova and Antenex) and opening a place of my own - for now I have the use of a 4 bay installation area. Not of much use since I dont do too many installs yet, and I cant keep all of my equipment there. Hopefully this clears up some of the confusion.

As to the pics, here are some. Keep in mind I still have a VHF MCS2000 to put in the empty spot in the console, and rear LED arrowstick (split version - (2) 4 lamp sections. Thanks!

Maybe someday I'll dig through my pile and see if I have any pictures of my first frankenstien install job, no fuses, magnet mount untuned antenna for a maxtrac, four rotator lightbar with cables run through the door jam. When I moved to my next vehicle, I put a fuse into the radio at least, but still ran power for the bar directly to a cheap rocker switch in the stock console.

After an accident (unrelated to using any of my equipment, including my illegal (by letter of statutory law) lights) I've started pulling it apart to do it the right way. I lost a bid on a nice install because I did my truck on a $10 budget. This time around I'm going for the relays, master breakers, hideaway strobes, NMO mounts, and proper mounting of the lightbar... the whole nine. Of course my truck will still be illegal by statute, but court rulings have set a precedent that they don't care how many lights you use as long as they're not red or blue, you have some kind of authorization for the color you are using (ambulance volunteer)..... and you don't drive like an a$$ hole.

Anyway, nice looking job on the Suburban, if I had the money I'd by a nicer/newer vehicle like yours that doesn't have a shifter and ebrake in the floor. I'd still built a custom console, but that's just my style.

I'm sure there are. I have the capability. But I wouldn't... because I really don't care that much about it. I look at it this way, if you are going to obscure any kind identity do it artisticly....

Artistcly Jaymz? Well, last time I put in the letters VC 10851 on the plate? I want to get that as personalized plates, but Im sure DMV wouldnt like that

Its a 30 inch Havis console, the empty hole will be filled with a VHF MCS2000 Model 2 identical to the other. And yes, this vehicle is done right - hideaways, everythign fused at the battery (the 4 ga. supply line), fused at the distribution block, and fused at each unit. NMO Mounts, hideaways, as someone said, "the whole nine". When I get the LED arrow (this weekend hopefully) installed, I will post pics of that, as well as the array of crap under the seat - radio drawers, dist. box, etc. Also I will eventually be mounting my new HP laptop in, hooked up to an NMO mount 2.4 ghz antenna - its nice to have free high speed internet anywhere in town!

Do a search on "war driving". I also want to mount a color GPS on the dash, most likely. Anyone have any suggestions on a nice unit? I will have it hooked up to the laptop, but that wont always be installed. Thanks!

Looks to me like your short one microphone. i sone for the SS2000sm and one for the MCS 2000, but nothing for the Spectra.

Its a lowband Syntor X9000 actually. It is lowband, and I dont need to xmit on lowband so it is a receive only radio, therefore needing no mic. Will be adding an identical mic to the /\/\ one for the VHF MCS though. Also forgot about the FT-90R being installed somewhere to have a frequency agile dual band radio.

Sounds cool to me. I wish I could afford a could of more /V\ Radios.

Right now I have an STX821 and converta com, and 800mhz Spectra and just traded for a 800 mhz Maxtrac. I'm looking for a UHF Spectra, but they are pretty high on ebay right now. At least more than I want to spend.
I would love to have XTS 3000. But buying a $2500-3000 radio to make it into a scanner is kinda extreme. Although allot of guys do it.

Ya, FiremanBatt and myself both got a good deal on the unit - he traded it to me for some strobe equipment he needed. Check out XTS3000s on eBay, they are around $1000. Still $$$, but still a lot less than the $2500-3k you quoted.
