RIB problems

Hi,

I hope this will be the last post asking for help on such a simple problem.

I was able to find a 486Mhz computer to program my new codeplugs into my HT1000's. Well i set the RSS up on the omputer, Had the RIB hooked up to the computer with a a radio attached, and when I ran a test, it worked.

I shut down my computer for the night, and when I fired it up the next day,the RSS gives me a message that says;


"Com Port Event
RIB Port Communication Unsuccessful

Pobable Causes:
Radio Turned off
No Radio or Radio Malfunctioning
Radio Battery Low
Poor connection between Radio and RIB
RIB Malfunctioning"


I tripple checked that the radio was on, I put a fully charged NEW battery on it, Brand new RIB Battery, and tripple checked all the connections.

I just dont understand, It was working perfectly and then it dosent work, what the frigg.

Make sure nothing changed the Com Port. Was it working on Com 1 ? I doubt its the RIB, take all cables off the radio/rib/pc & put them back on. (motorola ribs last a long time) more likely the pc? Radio has a fully charged battery..

I've seen this one before. Sometimes, if you start up the computer with the RIB connected to the serial port, it does this. I always disconnect the RIB from the computer when turning on the computer.

HT1000 RSS should be run from pure DOS, NOT the dos prompt on Windows 9x.
Boot you computer with a DOS 6.xx floppy and your problem will go away.
There is a real problem in Windows 9x in the way it handles the serial ports. And most M s/w was not written to handle tis Win 9x problem.

Hi;

Well, most have already herd this serman, but
here goes again.

When programming Motorola radios, you should
be using a <b>STABLE</b> programming platform.

Please Note: Not ALL Computers operate in the
same manor as memory, Hard Drives , OS's all
can have a Major impact.

So long as you are using a 386-486-25 Series
Computer with at least 4Mb of Ram, you are
on the right track !

Next comes the Rib Box...Motorola Ones Preferd, and MAKE SURE you have a Fresh Battery and a Good Power Supply....Beleive
it or not, LOW BATTERIES can ( and will ) cause a Corrupted Code Plug.

Also, on HT1000's Cables, MANY TIMES the pins
will get bent causing a poor connection, this
too can cause a problem

Most Clones for HT1000's are A-OK if they are
built well, however, I have seen some that
are just horrible, and well, the radio sometimes will crash....

Also ( DO NOT RUN MOTOROLA PROGRAMS ) while
under a Win9x OS....DOS 6.22 ONLY unless the
RSS is Windows Based !!

So, with a Good Rib Box, Stable Computer, Good sound Porgram Cable, along with the
support accessories, you should should be OK.

Thank you for all of the suggestions, but it still does not work.

As far as i can tell, it S#$*^ the bed. I dont know but, Oh Well. I was borrowing it from someone else. So no money out of my pocket.

Josh! I trust you tried all the above info! Sometimes I had to remove cables more than one time. Do you have another radio you can try? "Monty" (above your last post) said drop him an email, if you are still having trouble...

Just for reference, I run HT1000 RSS on a 150 Pentium in DOS and it works fine.

here is another idea, go into the rss and go to setup/config mode,F9 I think, and make sure that the rss is set to the correct com port
