Why would one need a bigger alternator for radios?
In receive, you aren't even using current. If you are transmitting on all radios SIMULTANEOUSLY, you might need it. Even then, how long do you really transmit.
I can put 3 X9000s or Spectras on my lawnmower with an 8 amp alternator and I'll talk at a normal duty cycle all day long on the ham bands. Remember- most mobile units transmit less than 1% of the total time your mobile is powered up.

Because its worth doing....
I want a better charging system for several reasons
I have more than just radio in there, such as chargers, laptop docking stations and the PDRC
Data radio for APRS
plug in jump start cables in the grill
and a 12000 pound winch will be mounted on the truck when I get back from Ohio.
As for the Loband antenna I'm not sure what I'll do. I have a Maxrad DC ground base loaded antenna for it right now which works great, but is mighty big on top of the truck especially next to the maxrad MLPV salt shaker antennas.
I might get the disguised AM/FM antenna from COMPROD and go that route or maybe the infamous ball mount. Who knows.

Use the COMPROD antenna and have them either double or triple stub it for added bandwidth. Mine is over 4 Mhz wide and works great.
