Hi. I have an MTS2000 Model III and I need to put it on a trunking system. From what I understand you cannot use trunking unless you have a system key. I was working around this and came across Batlabs System Key page. I saw that this worked for other MTS's but I can't figure out how to do it right.

System ID: 3619

Please give me simple instructions on how to get a system key with the Batlabs 'Special' way. (Note: Im a newb with radios)

No one here is going to give you that information! You have to have permission from the Radio system administrator to have access to that radio system. Chances are, That's not going to happen
anytime soon. You probably should go out and buy a trunking scanner, at least you won't be in any trouble having that.

Mr. Flashport is correct. I run a trunked system for my employer, and we don't give the system key out to anyone. It is equivalent to giving someone the keys to your house. Once they have the system key, they can access the radio system. We charge users to access the system, so giving that service away violates the purpose of us running it.
You can attempt to hack it, but you will still be "breaking into" the system unless you have specific permission from the system owner.
You really only have a couple of choices here:
1. try and break into the system by hacking the system key.
2. Ask the system owner nicely and explain why you need access to the system.
3. Program your radio to scan the repeater outputs in conventional mode.
4. Sell your radio and get a trunk tracking scanner.

Just a bit of friendly advice: Don't pursue hacking the system key, or asking others to help you.
I can understand what you are trying to do. I was new to radios once, and wanted to learn as much as I could. I did some stuff that I shouldn't have. If you have an interest in radios, ask around, this is a good site to learn from. There are plenty of people here that can help you build your interest in radios. Good luck!

That's just about the best explanation I've ever seen on here about using a trunked radio as a monitor (assuming that's what he wants to do).

I thought that system ID looked familiar...it is just south of me.

not only is everything above true -

i would add that using a "hacked" system key to access a trunked radio system (even just to monitor it) is considered a "computer network break-in" or "network trespass".


i'm not sure what florida's laws are on the topic, but you can bet that if you are caught it's not going to be like 1989 when you go to trial.
