Dear Experts out there,

Just get myself an XTS2500 VHF Model III.

Everything works fine except have somekind of display problem when using backlight.

The LCD display works fine. But if the backlight comes out or I push the backlight button (below PTT),
the display became crazy. It flickering and then no display at all.
Only the backlight available.

Ony ones know the problems? How can I settle it other than send back to the seller (different country)?

Hope to hear some good information here.

Thanks

It could be a few things. Some displays are band specific. An 04 label on the display will work with any band/model. It could also be a bad flex cable. Is this a panter/china radio? These are known for this.

folks

To resurect a post here but I have a "panter 88" xts2500i uhf r2 that has a intermittent display issue as darn similar to the above post. the questions i have are that these display flexes/ are they part of the display module itself? Also I have read that these are Verry tricky cases to disassemble without the tool, would anybody happen to have the part# for the disassembly tool?

Part number you're looking for is 6685666D01. Somewhere around $4 from MOL.

The display and flex are a single assembly, the flex is soldered to the LCD/display driver circuit board.

When I ordered mine off MOL minimum order is 2. So itll be around 8 before shipping. Still not that big of a deal since some people on ebay sell them for 24. Never hurts to have more than one in case you loose one.

Just FYI

thanks for the quick replys folks i will prob order 2 of these little critters just to have them, A friend of mine that works on these esp the panter 88 ones says that the solder joints on the zif connectors is also a common problem. Have many of you run into this? sounds like it may be tough to diagnose/fix?
Also has anybody out there ran into a youtube video or a written guide for the dissassembly of this series of radios? I have looked and cant find anything for the xts2500 pr1500 ect i have found the xts300/5000 but nothing for these that i could find, if anybody has a ling that would be awsome

thanks again to everybody

small update, the display came back on and was stable if the radio is left alone to recieve on my desk, what seems to precipitate a failure is if i press any of the buttons on the upper left hand side of the display home ect. It seems that if i press the ptt or the side buttons i cant produce a failure (yet) but if i press say the home button more times than not the display quickly gets dim and pixilated. Not sure what this may indicate figured i would throw it out there

thanks

Gentlemen
the new display arrived as well as the Moto tool for the case. I replaced the display and NO good same issue. The display that came out of the radio has c01 marked on the part, the new display had C04 marked on it?? i also noticed that in the corner of the display board (opposite the connector) there is normally a 1/2 in x 3/8in ish piece of braided rectangular shielding/connector that on other radio attached from the display board to the back of the keyboard pcb board retainer this was missing, not sure if it was omitted/forgotten by panter88 or what.
Non the less I was mad and frustrated so what I did was find a donor xtsmod3 and swapped the whole front cover and the radio seemed to work great for the 10 min I had it testing. What else could it be The only thing left seems to be the flex connectors and the keyboard pcb itself. I suppone I could have dissaembeld the donor radio further but it was not mine and I did not want to buy parts for 2 radios What do you folks think of my diagnostics? Also that metal piece of shielding/connector is it critical? i assume its there for a good reason
thanks as always for the imput
john

i posted in a previous thread about an xts2500 display problem. I have run down the problem to be the keypad pcb. I had a donor radio and swapped out all the parts and checked everything and when i replace the keypad pcb the broken radio works fine. The part number on the board is ntn9638a 4182mal-2. I can not find this part anywhere?? the closest part i can find is by the ntn9638a and that is for the whole front cover assy$$$$. Can anybody help me in figuring out the pn# . The radio is an xts2500r2 model 3 uhf. I have the board out and can post a pic. There are some other numbers on the board in gold line 1) 51-02-4 line 2) 92213 line 3) 8485777co2a thanks for any help. i sure hope this is avail seperately. thanks
