I am looking to buy either the vehicular charger (hard wire) or the impres charger that has the cig plug for my XTS3000. Can the radio, when docked in either of these units, transmit if a speaker mic was attached? Or can it only be powered on to receive and then must be removed to TX?

The CLA charger is not designed to have the XTS3000 transmit while docked
but i have seen many an officer do it anyway even though we instruct them
not to do so. A couple of them have walked into the shop with smoked units
and asked us to fix them. We just tell them to buy a new one.

The above charger / "battery eleminator" can be had on "that auction site" for like $18 shipped. They work great, I've bought one myself, however, I think the genuine Motorola vehicular charger is better. Not only does it charge your battery ( on both the XTS and Jedi platforms ) but you can also use the radio ( both transmit and recieve ) while the radio is in the charger. They can be had for about $90 new. Only downside is thy are not Impres compatable, but as long as you occasionally dump your Impres battery in an Impres charger once a week or so, your battery should be fine.

Its never a good idea to use a radio in any charger while transmitting. If you want to go that route get an XTVA Pricy but worth it.

Part number RLN4884

I'm 99% sure the manual say it was ok to use the radio while in the charger, although I know this is generally NOT a good idea.
