I want to convert my stand alone mobile XTL5000 Starcom radio into a consolette so I can tie it into my dispatch console. I can not find anything that would help me with cables or pin outs. If anyone knows if this can be done and how.

Hate to ask questions that may sound germane, but don't you think it would help getting an answer if you gave just a little hint on what type of console you have?

Second question, is just how do you propose to interface your console to the radio? Will this be a direct connection or tone remote control?

Are you planning on using multiple frequencies in the radio from the console?

The radio pin outs are in the basic service manual available for downloading from the MOL site. But you need an account to get access to the site.

You can connect the radio directly to the console via the 26 pin connector on the back of the radio.
Consult the Installation manual for the specific pin connections.

As far as conversion into a consolette, you can't get the parts from motorola to do that. They will only sell you a complete consolette.

Stuey, My suggestion is that you find a place to mount the Starcom radio with the face accessible (for channel selection) and interconnect it to a CPI TTP 2 or a Motorola L3276 tone remote adapter. With the amount of groups on Starcom and restricted programming, You're better off just controlling the channel selection and sharing that selection with all the console positions. If your agency uses Starcom as your primary network, you could get a remote head and place the radio and tone adapter out of sight at one position. Your only other choice is to use a consolette.

Hope this helps!

Your options for full control of an XTL are limited.
One, you can find a complete XTL consolette with a bad radio, move the firmware from said radio to your radio as it's different. Mind you there were 3 varations of consolette and if you get the wrong one, unless you have a 5500 or Gold Elite and have the ACIM board in the Gold elite (or the iButton w/SB9600 in the 5500) your only other option is a Zetron MAX console. They spent the money and got the licensing agreement with Motorola for access to the 9600 bus on the back of the radio. You will need the MRG (Motorola Radio Gateway) in the MAX and of course the rest of what makes up a Zetron MAX console to do this. Be aware that the MAX is a new product from Zetron and there are not going to be any used ones out there for some time.

I think what he was trying to say is he wanted to take a xtl5000 with w7 head and install it into the xtl consolette with tone remote option.
