I have recently acquired a UHF MTS2000 and was expecting to have to use CPS.

I read the radio using CPS and read on the "Info" screen that the MTS2000 had previously been programmed with DOS RSS in 2009.

I decided to use RSS although I was thinking that maybe having just read the radio with CPS that I would get "Codeplug too New" if I used RSS. However, this was NOT the case. RSS worked OK - so just reading the radio with CPS (rather than actually writing to the radio) does NOT result in "Codeplug too New"!!

Anyway, I found that RSS was a joy to use!!! In particular, the Help Pages are VERY helpful and give default values for all parameters. So if you want to get back to the factory settings, its very easy. With CPS you do not always get a default value in the Help Pages - although maybe you could use a default codeplug?...but I prefer to always modify the original codeplug...just in case!! If you are loading lots of personalities, using RSS its easy to scroll though each personality looking for any errors just by looking for "flickers" on the screen where the value is different from all the other identical values!!

Just my thoughts...although I'm sure CPS has its benefits!!!

The last version of DOS RSS (6.08) won't let you program an MTS2000 512K, it will force you to use CPS. You read it and it will tell you to use CPS.

I personally find CPS easier to use. Drag and drop makes building codeplugs so much easier. In DOS RSS, you have three screens to enter data. CPS also tells you specifically where there are invalid fields. I used to spend HOURS tracking down some miniscule setting (like pointing a trunking personality to an invalid scan member) in DOS RSS.

Not to mention, CPS runs on modern computers under most versions of Windows (sans 64 bit OS'es). Being able to do side by side and top level drag and drop makes programming EASY, especially since I'm able to import data from other radios (like an MCS2000).

I'm glad to see RSS go bye-bye.

I used RSS 06.07.00 - I initailly searched the Batboard archives and found mention about avoiding 6.08.00.

OK on the CPS Invalid Fields - yes I agree , very useful...although I've spent hours trying to remove all NON - error invalid fields!!! Only errors stops you writing but I like to think everything is 100%

OK on Drag and Drop. I have a HT1250 (GP380) with 200 loaded channels. I want to copy the same freqs to a non keypad "HT1250" ie a GP360 without having to retype the whole list. Can I do this with CPS ie. copy a codeplug to a non identical radio?

the pro series doesn't let you do drag and drop.
in fact, IMO, pro series CPS sucks.
