I have read all 194 results here for "ht1250 scan list," and I have learned that most everyone feels that the scan system for this radio sucks. So far I agree. What I have not learned is what I was looking for. Can the ht1250 support a user programable scan list like the xts2500 / 5000, and going back to the mt2000 (ht1000 also?) and even earlier mobiles. If so can someone tell me how to set it up? My help files dont work (I believe due to multiple cps on one computer).
Thanks
JT

Yes, it can, and it's not too horrible. Set one of the front panel buttons for scan list edit. You'll use the menu / dot button for select, and the up down arrows to scroll through the list edit functions and the channels you want to add/del. Pretty straight forward.

The scan on the HT1250 works just fine, programming a list from the keypad is rediculously a pain.
From the tree, go to scan list. On that menu make sure the "User Programmable" box is checked. This has to be done for each scan list you want to be user programmable. Next go to Controls & Menus > Menu items>Program Lists Sub-Menu and make sure the box by "Scan List" is checked.
Once this is programmed into the radio you will be able to go to the channel that the has the conventional personality with the programmable scan list assigned to it and program a list. Press the menu button to go into menu mode. Then press the left or right arrow until the display shows "edit lists" or something like that (I don't have an HT1250 in front of me) and press the menu button again. Then press the left or right arrow until you get to scan list and then press the menu button. Now you can scroll through all the channels in the radio and select up to 16 for the scan list - 15 if you have a fixed priority channel. See how easy that is?
You are alomost better off reading the radio with CPS, editing the list on the computer screen and then dumping it back into the radio.

Wow. Mine is as easy as any other scanner or portable. Yeah - you have to make sure every channel has the scan enable checked in the cps. But, the only thing I have in the cps scan list 1 is <selected> channel. I press the FP button 2 which has been prog as SCAN LIST EDIT, scroll through the functions (view? add? delete? priority?) with the up/down arrows, add channels, return, press button 3 SCAN, and away I go. Budda bing budda boom. I suppose if you use up the side and front panel buttons for other functions, going through the menu tree would be a pain, but it is the way of last choice.

It never occurred to me to program a button for that. Nothing like making things more complicated than it needs to be.

Not to worry. Programmable buttons have been a curse and a blessing since they were invented. We learned early on to agree on a shop template for specific models so that all of us could drive them, or walk a customer through theirs. As the number of features available became larger, that concept went out the window. Where it really gets confusing is at a customer with hundreds of radios purchased over the last decade from three or four manufacturers with two or three firmware versions, with two or three or four front panels. So, what button does what function on what radio in what truck? You'll run from the room screaming.
