A4 Spectra conversion - no volume !?

I wanted to change one of my spectras from A7 to A4 for my truck. I changed heads and made all the changes in lab including the model number, but now with the A4 head I have no volume control. It is stuck on whatever setting I have it on for "minimum volume" in the RSS. I know - eveyone is gonna say it is leaky caps.. but I tried 4 different a4 heads (bought a lot of 4 on Ebay), and all same result - no volume control (everything else works). I switched back to A7, and even tried an A5 head, and volume works fine so it is not the radio. I am using the modified interconnect board (and tried several others - not luck).

What do I need to do to get the A4 volume control to work? Is there a jumper on the command board, or some other setting that allows the volume control to work on the A4? (using MLM 6.02).

Tried everything I can think of. Has to be either a hardware jumper or some moflag in the codeplug that I havn't found.

can somebody PLEASE email me a spectra a4 (rotary head) codeplug preferrably VHF...so I can test it out and see if that will enable the volume control on my unit?

Sorry you should have changed the control head type in the Spectra RSS. Not lab ..

Did that, (to rotary type) no help. Finally tried another MLM (older version) and for some reason that fixed it. Must have been some sort of corruption in the MLM that wasn't showing up anywere. Anyway works fine now.

Did you go into the service section and get into the bit banger selection. Normally you need to go there and change the memory location 6060 to tell it what type of head your going to use. Enter in that memory location and hit return. You should see AF for an A5 head, ED for an A7 head and BF for the A4 head. Tab to get the curser to the memory setting, enter the letters you need and then press the F8 key to save it. Use the F10 key to keep backing out of the program. You have to wait till it changes before you can hit the F10m key again. Take your time and watch the top right of the screen.

yes, I did that. I even bit-banged the model number to match an a4 (both MLM and Comman Board). Still did not work until I changed the MLM out.
