Novus plastic polish and radio displays

Found and old thread about Novus plastic cleaner and polish kits, but it applied to restoring light bars. I got the small 2oz bottle kit with #1,2 and 3 scratch removers and polish and successfully used it to restore a display window on a beat-up XTS3000. It had some heavy scratches, and I started with #3 and a Q-tip, graduated to #2, and finished with #1. It's not mint, but a heck of a lot better. I also used it to remove some holster rash on a XTS5000 display. Pretty good results for $16, including the Alaska gouge factor. Anyone else try this product, or know of something better?

thats what we use on lightbars. #3 is real heavy and almost like rubbing compound. We rarely use that. #2 I use alot on weathered bars. It is polycarbonate in the display so it will work the same. You could try a small amout of car wax also.

Meguiar's aircraft windshield polish and cleaner is what I always use.

I use the aircraft window polish too.
I bet pretty much any of those fine polishes will make huge improvements.

#3 made no difference on the headlights on the car.

I really hate to bump up old threads but I'll try this before making a new one.
I have a bunch of XTS5000 cases with severe display window scratches.
Tried the Novus polish and that's not getting it.
I think these windows have an AR coating and it's pretty tough.
Any suggestions on how to get that off ?
I do have some car buffing compound but was a little hesitant to use it.
Do the display windows absolutely need the AR coating ?
There will be no putting it back on once buffed off.

i have swapped the windows from other housings that had other issues as a last resort. Just used super glue on the replacement

Well I guess I have 2 questions.
How did you get the old window out ? They are really glued in there.
And where did you get the replacement window ? Or did you rob it from another case?
thanks

1. very carefully ...really was n't that bad.
2. yes from another housing with a bad flex or other issue.

Often was motivated to take that approach to avoid salvage an engraved housing ...setting up for one housing is more labor intensive than just popping the windows out of some old ones.

We had a bunch that came back from the depot as part of the re-casing they used to do as part of the extended warranties ...flex cables were cut but otherwise complete.

What did you do ? Just push on the window ? These are glued in good to be splash proof.
I do have some model 2 housings from doing conversions.
I'll have to take a look at the windows and see what I can do.
thanks for the help

Believe we pushed and deformed the housings slightly to break the glue loose.
The housing is softer plastic than the window so it tends to separate the glue from the more rigid portion.

ok great I'll give that a try. The rest of the housing is good just that horribly scratched window.
The plastic polish would have worked except for that AR coating.
thanks
