This is my first attempt at trying to convert an X9000 and I am stumped. I have a 100 watt VHF X9000, (secure capable) and original RSS. I am hoping to move the radio to the 144-148 MHz Ham band. The radio has a Range 2 VCO and I am loosing VCO Lock below 145.250 or so. Also, I programmed all with the RSS 136-160 range where I was offered 36 modes. Two questions: Will a Range 2 VCO work on the entire VHF Ham band? if so, what am I missing to get the complete Ham band? and can anyone provide guidance on the RSS setup to make the radio 64 or 128 channel capable. I have had two VHF x9000 in the same range. One worked without a problem, the other is more picky. I don't use my x9000 in the ham bands much any more as it is now more of a public safety radio. What I did was program it to the 148-whatever band, it is worked fine for what I used. There is a "ham" verison of the RSS floating around that allows full coverage, but if the radio will lock on those freq's, it seems that its hit or miss. The lowband x9000 will work fine, as it is designed as a wideband radio.

For 128 operation, you need the SP firmware and RSS + an 8k control head.
