CDM1250, RSS 06.05.00

AMD Athlom II x2 240 Processor, Win7 32bit

Using serial port cable with serial-to-USB adapter cable.

Any problems with programming the CDM 1250, EX600, HT1250 with that computer processor?

Thanks...

You are going to want to upgrade to the latest version of the Pro Series CPS.

your problem is that usb to serial adaptor, just use a computer with a real serial port. And as also stated, update your software. And what's the firmware in the radio, if it's newer firmware that cps won't work no matter what computer you use

The Firmware sticker says "version R05.05.05"

Despite having four computers around here, none of them have serial ports, technology being what it is these days. But I will look around.

Upgrading the RSS may be another problem. I'm not even sure where I got the one I got.

I have been programming the 1250 with an older laptop with Vista on it with the serial-to-USB adapter, with no issues (yet). I was just curious if the newer desktop I have with those specs above would cause problems. I downloaded the codeplug from the radio with the desktop OK, but I'm reluctant to upload it to the radio fearing a "speed" issue or something along those lines. Using the desktop would just be a "convenience" issue as opposed to a "necessity."

Bottom line: If there's a question as to whether the desktop with those specs is a problem programming the 1250, I'll stick to the laptop.

As always, thanks for your help.

I found that the secret is to use a good quality USB to serial adapter, preferably one that uses the Prolific 2303 chip set. The drivers are readily available on Prolific's website.

I am using a Win 7 32 bit PC with aftermarket USB ribless cables now. There is no serial adapter needed. Once I loaded up the Prolific driver, the computer recognizes all the different cables as soon as I plug them in.

I still have an XP baby tower that has real live serial ports and it is great for programming on the bench. But the laptop is becoming more and more essential to reprogram mobiles in the field.

If you can read the radio OK with your setup, it should write just as well.

That's what I'm using, and have used on a couple of portables (EX 600, HT1250). No problems.

I'll give the CDM a shot (so to speak).

Thanks
