I am trying to narrowband some CP200 portable radios. I borrowed a Kawamall multi-programming cable that is "ribless". There is a 9pin serial cable coming from it. A "stereo" phono plug, RJ45 plug, and what appears to be two power leads. Does this cable assembly need external power? The guy I borrowed it from borrowed it from someone else and was unable to answer that question. If it needs external power, what voltage? The "box" the wires are coming from is apparently designed as a battery pack shell since that is how some radios are programmed.

7.5 volts would be my guess.

My guess also. But the radio keeps the battery pack on and is programmed through the stereo (3 conductor) phone plug on the side of the radio.

9v battery leads - like a real rib uses- got the same setup several years ago to play with- works pretty good with radios that just have Gnd and Bus+ connections

I have an aftermarket cable that has the 9 pin (DB9) serial connector and the 3 conductor stereo plug for the CP150/200's. It has as red and black wire coming out of the DB9 that have a standard 9v battery connection on them.

Yours may be just missing the 9v connector.
