Analog Passthru on DIU 3000

Post by mutantblue »

I'm trying use a Quantar and DIU 3000 to interface to an ROIP controller. In the past I have just passed analog audio (via wireline) to and from the controller, but I recently acquired the DIU and would like to get audio to the controller with either an analog or P25 input. I've added the V.24 daughter card to my Wireline card and have successfully seen audio coming out of the console port of the DIU when transmitting P25 into the base station. Where I am having trouble is when in the analog mode. My understanding is that the DIU should pass the 4-wire audio information to the console port when the base station sees an analog signal. I've tried everything I could think of to get this to work, but I've never seen anything when in analog. I'm assuming there's something basic I'm overlooking.

Any help would be appreciated.

I can only assume that you know that the V.24 link has to be operational. The V.24 link tells the DIU what is coming - if P25 its on the V.24 circuit. If its audio, the DIU is informed via the V.24 (from the Quantar) that analog audio exists. Of course, you have to have Analog enabled in both the Quantar and DIU3000.

In the Quantar, you have to tell it that your using a Hybrid connection in the settings page. There is a simular setting in the DIU.
Also I assume the DIU3000 and Quantar are near each other - no other device is between them.

Humm,

You can make this work but it takes great care in having all of the boxes checked for the setup to work just as you are expecting it to.

The simpler way I have made this work time and time again was with Astro Modems between my DIU and the Quantar with my audio starting and stopping at the DIU for external auxiliary equipment.

We have this same setup for JPS NXU-2A boxes and are controlling these with COR and PTT from the back of the DIU. Analog audio sounds the same as digital with its little A/D D/A added in.

JPS is happy and digital is happy. The console port also tone remote decodes any commands from wireline stations.

The Astro Modems are still available as a FRU kit and slide right in where a V.24 card resides for both the Quantar and the DIU.

Nothing is exempted when running through the Astro modem so encryption and all astro signalling work as expected

CoM
If the lights are out when you leave the station and then come on the second you key up, you know you have enough power.
