Hello. A friend whose not a member here purchased a UHF XTS3000 type 3 at the Orlando Hamfest. The radio has worked well but recently the encryption switch died. Whether it's the plastic knob, or the switch itself, we don't know. He used that switch for scan on/off. So the switch only works when the pointer lines up with the O. It wont move to the position with the line through the O. We changed the scan on/off to a side button. Now we realize the ch knob will only move to the first 3 positions. Again, with pressing the correct buttons, the correct channel can be selected. Anyone run across this before? Any fixes? GARY N4KVE

The switch is actually two switches in one body, so you can't replace one without the other.
The plastic inserts for the outer knobs are a pain, and if you can remove the outer knob and see if there is any sort of obsruction preventing the channel selecor from rotating, you might be able to clear it.
If it is the physical switch, then you will probably be stuck with disassembling the housing, removal and desoldering of the switch and of course, getting the part number to actually be found on MOL and their wonderful catalog system...love partial views of replacement parts, and not the ones you need, but usually the ones that are not field replaceable.
The retainers in these cases are horrid, like the PR1500..so many tiny parts holding the mic, support brackets, speaker and so on....Once you get the switch housing removed, the rest is fairly simple.
