XTS NiCD Battery Failures

We've been using the Cadex Battery Analyzers, WPLN4124BR, with their Battery Shop application for years now. Just recently we're experiencing an inordinate amount of premature failures of the NTN8297AR from the end of 2009, date code: 0952.
Normal NiCD service life is around five years, but we cycle them out after three years and then when they don't achieve 85% capacity.
This abnormal spike in failures of batteries that are only two and one half years old is more than disconcerting. At over $100 a pop, it's a problem. I've confirmed with Cadex that the Analyzer profile for the NTN8297AR is correct.
I'd enjoy hearing from other Users if they are noticing the same failure spike in 2009/10 batteries.
