THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL POLICE (USCP) is a law enforcement agency in the Legislative Branch of the Government. Our mission is 'To protect the Congress, its legislative processes, Members, employees, visitors, and facilities from crime, disruption, or terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional responsibilities in a safe and open environment.' Due to the nature of a law enforcement agency, occasionally civilian employees may be called upon to support emergency operations and perform duties that vary significantly from the primary duties of their positions. Duty hours are subject to change to accommodate the needs of the Department; occasional additional duty may be required.
This position is located in the Radio/Networking/Wireless Communications Division, Office of Information Systems (OIS), U.S. Capitol Police (USCP). The OIS provide the policy, planning, budgeting, designing, testing, implementing, and managing of the Department's automated information and information technologies. The Division is responsible for installation, repair and maintenance of all USCP voice and data communications system(s).
Selectee for this position must pass a background investigation.
Appointment to this position is contingent upon funding availability.
Additional selections may be made.
Duties:
Installs/maintains a wide range of radio equipment and system components, including VHF repeaters (conventional and trunked), combiners, duplexers, filters, power amplifiers, UPS, and antennas. Sets up and installs ad hoc radio networks (repeaters, receivers, duplexers, base stations, and connectivity) at off site locations in support of USCP travel missions.
Performs programming tuning and alignment procedures to ensure mobile, portable and fixed radio equipment is performing within radio specifications. Identifies faulty or degraded components,repair or replace.
Performs test with technical diagnostic equipment such as wave form scopes, spectrum analyzers, sweep generators, communication test sets and transmission impairment measuring sets.
Works independently on routine and repetitive work assignments.
Frequently lifts and carries items unassisted weighing up to 40lbs. Sometimes required to lift items weighing more than 40lbs with help of weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Work requires frequent standing walking, bending, crouching reaching and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required.

These are the last 2 positions for the new Capitol Communications (CAPCOMM) Radio Shop here on South Capitol Street SW right off of capitol grounds.
Duty station would be here in DC Monday through Friday.
Positions are required to have FCC/GROL license and previous experience with two-way land mobile radios from installation, repair, troubleshooting, diagnosing intermittent's and programming.
Both of the new hires will be also provided systems training as part of the new VHF Simulcast Trunked radio project which will soon have a vendor award, with extensive study on the alignment, repair and maintenance on the simulcast infrastructure.
