CDM 1250 EPROM error

I researched this a little and got a partial fix. My radio came up with EPROM error after changing some PLs. I upgraded to CPS version 06.12.02 and found the error window, I did recover and it came back to life with the generic codeplug. I walked away for dinner and when I came back the buttons were not responding. I powered it down and the EPROM message reappeared. I powered it down again and it won't come back on. Its probably 10 years old. Is it possible some internal battery is going kablooie? Here's the particulars: Model # AAM25SKD9AA2AN version R04.01.14
Thanks for the advice

I was able to get to power back on. It had the EPROM CS ERROR once it powered back on. I was able to do the recovery thing again. Now it shuts off and back on every 2 minutes.. As I type, it froze again.

You have a checksum error, probably from a bad codeplug programming.
Try a different codeplug, the one you are using appears to have issues.
Open your CPS and look for a matching .CPG file that is factory, and use that to rebuild your channel list. Factory codeplugs are clean.
If you get the radio back up again, you will have to realign it.

I don't think it's a bad checksum, I think the prom has basically bit the dust. My understanding is that the prom is written every time the radio is powered on, and like many other things, has only a finite lifespan. The Waris radios are becoming notorious for EEPROM CS and EEPROM HW failures, I'm finding they're able to be recovered only a fraction of the time. If you are brave (and good with SMT) you may be able to replace it yourself. Otherwise, a trip to the depot for a flat rate will basically guarantee a new set of guts going into the radio, every EEPROM failure I've sent to them has been remedied with a new mainboard. Portables have been getting a new front cover kit as well, since the old front covers won't mate to the new back cover kits.

Sorry it took so long for me to post. I tried loading another codeplug from an identical radio. That did the trick. It's been ok since then. Thanks for the advice.
