Ok so I have read the posts about the fail 01/79 and getting the pins together. I have the plug in the radio to do that but I am still getting that fail code??? I have tried it with 2 different radios and still get the same thing. Anyone have an idea?????

Not trying to be picky here, but you really haven't explained your actions enough to give a clear picture.

You could have a program issue. You said that 2 different radios were tried with the same results. I hope you have the high current connection on the rear of the radio being supplied with 12 volts prior to trying to turn the radio on.

Try pulling out the 2 pin rear power connector just enough to get a volt meter on those connections. You can use the antenna connector on the radio for the ground connection if you have to. Just make sure the negative side of the high current connector does go to the return of your power supply. Measure this connection as you turn the radio on. Low voltage here can cause the radio to do all sorts of strange things.

Well I first went ahead and added the plug on the back of the box that shorts pins 1 and 2. and also pins 4 and 9 to both radios as the plug was missing from one. supposedly that is supposed to stop the fail. I will test the connection tomorrow....but does anyone know why it would come up on both radios with the plug connected?

The error 01/79 is indicating that the emergency switch was pressed when the radio was off, but had power applied.

Shorting pins 1 and 2 together allow the internal speaker to function.

Shorting pins 9 (emergency) and 4 (ground) together or pin 10 (ground)should prevent the radio from going into the emergency mode. You can verify this by putting a watt meter on the antenna jack and a dummy load on the other side of the watt meter. If the radio is going into the emergency mode, it will generate a brief transmission to send the radio ID. Also take an Ohm meter and make sure that pin 4 is actually ground on the plug. You could be counting the pins wrong. I do it all the time.

Again I repeat myself, have you measured the 12 volts your feeding the radio to make sure it isn't dropping when the radio tries to power up?

The power is not dropping when powering on

Come on and work with me by answering all the questions at the same time.

Does the radio send out any RF when it is first turned on? You will need a watt meter to verify this yes or no.

Did you verify the DB25 connector pin 9 (emergency)on the bottom of the radio where your making the jumper connections? It needs to be grounded all the time. The number 10 pin is ground and you can verify this with an Ohm meter.
