W7 Astro spectra ignition problem
I have a W7 Astro Spectra remote mount that I finally installed and I have a probem with the Ignition sense. The radio will turn off when you turn off the ignition switch to the off position, but when you turn the ignition back ON you have to use the power button to power up the radio. What have I done wrong ?

Re: W7 Astro spectra ignition problem
Is the Green wire to Battery or constant power and Orange wire to Ignition?
Re: W7 Astro spectra ignition problem
Both were together when I bought the radio, so they are both to ignition.radiokid wrote:Is the Green wire to Battery or constant power and Orange wire to Ignition?

Re: W7 Astro spectra ignition problem
You will need to put the green wire on battery and the orange wires is the one that goes to ignition.
Just checked with an W7 astro spectra plus in my office. Your problem should be fixed when you make the above changes.

That sort of depends oh how the ignition jumpers are done inside the control head.

Thanks to all . I have the wire routed to the right place now,I also had a break in the wire as well.

Re: W7 Astro spectra ignition problem
The version of command board in the radio also comes into play. Earlier revisions require +12V constant to green and use orange for ignition switching, while later versions use the green wire for ignition switching and don't require constant 12V outside of the primary power.Jim202 wrote:radiokid wrote:You will need to put the green wire on battery and the orange wires is the one that goes to ignition.

I must have an older W7 because it has to have power to Green all the time. I also have a W9 and it does not work the same way ,both Green and Orange are switched voltage .

Re: W7 Astro spectra ignition problem
There are zero ohm jumpers on the circuit board of the control head that control how the head will power up. most people don't know these jumpers even exist. You will need the circuit diagram and the board layout to find the board that you have in your head.
The newer Astro Spectra heads use the same board layouts, but with a new part number. Astro heads and the older Spectra heads are not interchangeable. There is a difference in the firmware used in the heads to control them and the interface to the radio.
