WTD:=[ Mod Info for Low Band P200 / MT1000 to 52.525 Mhz

Post by Monty »

HI:

We are still on a quest for one ( anyone ) who has
performed the Modifications for a Motorola P200LB / MT1000LB
to work in the 50 ~ 54 Mhz Band.

What we already know

1. A 42-50 Mhz Stock P200LB/MT1000LB will work up to about 52 Mhz, then goes out of lock.

2. Have been informed ( but not varified ) that the only one Laser
Trim Cap needs to be replaced. We suspect its the one furthest from the PC board.

Its been reported to be about 8 ~ 9 pf,

I have included a Photo of one that does work @ 52.525 Mhz, but
who ever did the work, did a very good job, and did not leave any
tell tail signs of ( any ) componets being changed

Image

We Could Not remove the Trim Caps off the [ Source Radio ]
since it did not belong to us.....But was able to get a close up
photo of both the Modified 42-50 Mhz => 54 and a 36-42 Mhz
version just for evaluation

Anyone out there willing to share the Exact proceedure ? or will
we be left up to doing our own Experimentation?

Will be more than willing to offer surplus from the warehouse
for the proper information

Monty passed away in Sept 2004 (May he rest in peace.) Some have gotten MT1000s to work part way up the band, some higher than others. Nothing absolutely reliable with every radio though apparently.

From the searching I did, I could see that Monty had put some effort into dredging up the available info on this. It was hard to find a thread on it that wasn't from him!

My P200 may be the worst case example. It doesn't like the ham band at all.

I have an MT1000 that works thru the whole 6 meter band. The bad news is that someone else did the mod on it.
All i was told is that they grounded the VCO lock line.
I suppose some time I should open it up and see what might have been done.
Its only a 6 ch, and I would like to change it to at least a 16, but I have a 99 ch HT600E UHF that won't work, so I might just get to making a 99 ch Low Band...

I converted a 42 to 50 MHz Mt1000 to all of 6 FM, it was tested and used up to 53.3 MHz but I programmed in 53.99 RX and my radio locked fine there also. I also changed a 36 to 42 MT1000 to 29 to 30 MHz.

JD, N6IME, down in Phoenix owns the 50 to 54 mhz version and I have the 29 to 30 Mhz radio with me right now listening to a ham in Colorado Springs coming thru on 29.6.

I sent the conversion docs in to the batlabs people over 2 months ago but so far have not seen anything posted.

If anyone wants the doc file and photos that I wrote up on the conversion PM me and I'll send it via e-mail as I don't think I can post it here.

Mike... please post it here.

Sadly we (BB-admin) have no control over the main site, but at least if it's posted here people can still use it. If it's a matter of hosting the pictures and stuff, let me know I'll host it all for you.

I have the pictures that Monty made around somewhere, but I cannot find them at the moment.
