XTL2500 Remote control

Help!

I would like to remote control an XTL2500 radio from a PC.
Anyone that knows any ready kits for this?
There are three data ports on the back, SB9600, RS232 and USB. Are they only used for programming or can you actually remote control the radio like you could with Spectra radios over the SB9600?
Three CAN-buses are used between radio and head. Does anyone have a protocol over what goes on there? Then that might be the way to do it.

To try and answer one of your questions, yes Motorola does do some control over the SB9600 data bus. It however, has been closely guarded as to the commands and what the data is that is there on the bus. Long time ago Motorola slipped up and publish some of this information your looking for in one of it's radio service manuals. Since that one manual came out there has been a lock down on the information. I have not seen this information or know just which manual it was in.

Now with the APX family, the migration has been to the CAN bus. Again Motorola is keeping the CAN bus data information close to it's vest.

Unless you can find someone with your bus information and get them to spill the beans, your on your own. You could spend hours sniffing out what is being sent with what changes you make on the control head. Then figure out what the data means.

Good luck on your efforts.

Thats what I thought. Its hard to get info. We have done remote on the old System Spectra through SB9600, so we know that quite well.
I wonder if XTL will accept commands through SB9600 or if its only used for the remote I/O ports?

Take a look at www.softradio.se to see what we have done in the past.

XTL will accept SB9600 commands however you may have a hard time transposing them if directly entering through the 26 pin connector. The XTL generally has commands sent from a consolette that really does nothing more than change the command from the console to one the radio wants to see. Found this out when setting up a MIP5000 and channel up/down commands made it do wonky things like change zones, turn scan on/off, monitor on/off etc.
