I recently acquired an MTS2000 IntelliCharge 2 RPX4747 which came with an 18V power supply which is usually used with a HT1250 charger.

My other "identical looking" MTS2000 NTN1171 charger uses a 13.8 or 14.2v power supply.

Is it OK to use 18V with the IntelliCharge 2?

The charger that came with mine is 13.8v 900 MAh 2580600E01. The one that comes with the NTN1171 is same voltage but 1.5 amps. 18v doesn't sound ideal.

Thanks - it was a Fleabay purchase together with a very nice "3 pin" Intrinically safe Jedi radio but fitted with a non-IS battery...so the radio would never have Tx'ed without a real 3 pin IS battery...but sold as working!!!! At least I know how to do the simple mod!!!

I guess the original owner will have used the 18v PSU...I wonder if the intelliCharger has some form of overvoltage fail safe? I definately will not try it...but I've been looking for a HT1250 charger PSU so it will still be useful!! You wonder why Motorola used an 18v PSU with HT1250 chargers rather than 13.8v???

Because they had lots of them in the warehouse....

Most portable radio battery chargers since the Genesis radios work on 13 volts. This makes most chargers usable in mobile applications.

Mod ? I've had several IS Jedi's and they all ran fine on non-IS batteries.

There are different IS versions - really dangerous environments eg. oil & gas, use two +ve rails - one for RX set at 6v 200mA and the other for TX set at 7v 1A, I think. Check out Batlabs for the full description. The radio and batteries have small blue or yellow stickers on the base. Green stickers are interchangeable with standard batteries..so I guess they are used in less dangerous situations.

I have a blue sticker Jedi, & it did come with the correct blue sticker battery, which has long since died. The radio works just fine with normal batteries. GARY N4KVE

Maybe its just yellow then...search on "BASEEFA Motorola Intrinsically Safe" which is the relevant IS standard...there is a useful PDF doc with pictures!!! There might also be a difference between EU and US standards.
