Jt1000 FPP problem

Hello all
Maybe you have the answer

I have 2 JT1000s recently acquired and tried the change in the code plug to government model as described in the main jt1000 page in bat labs. I am a ham and am not using these for commercial service so I don't care about commercial certification. I have changed code plugs on other MOTO radios before and understand the process.

I saved my radio's code plug to a floppy. Renamed it. Took it ti my other windows computer where I have hex workshop. Loaded it and changed the code plug as described. Saved it back to the floppy, and loaded it on my DOS machine. I was able to load the changed code plug back into the rss. And I was able to save it there, where presumably it changed the check sum. And then program the radio with it.

The radio took the program, and I was then able to download the CP from the radio, then save it to another name on the floppy, look at it with hex workshop and the 08 is still changed to 00 at the proper hex offset.

So, does anyone know why I am not able to get the channel box in programing mode. I get the other two, just as before. Sq and Pw
My model number is h01kdh9pa3an. S# 402aws1009 My RSS is r03.03.00 dated 10 Apr 1998 so it is relatively new.

I haven't tried making a fob with the diode out of an old mic cable. That would be next if no one can help me. I would rather have the SW mod.

If anyone has a Gov't model CP they can email me, or wants to look at mine to see what is up, or knows the answer, I would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Fred I am going Bat (wing) y with this seemingly simple mod

I'm working from memory here, but I believe FPP must be enabled on a per-channel basis in the RSS. Have you checked that?

OK... just got home from work and checked my HT/JT1000/Visar RSS User Guide.

You'll need to enable "User Programming" on the JT1000 Configuration Options screen. (That's F4, F3, F2, F3 from the main menu.)

You'll also need to verify that "User Programming" is enabled on each channel that you want to program from the Channel Configuration screen. (F4, F4 from the main menu.)

Ken
My Rss is properly configured. In both places. Any other ideas?

If you have the code plug from a "govt" model its simple. As long as the model numbers match. Just read the "govt" model radio, and write that codeplug to the "fcc" model radio. Use the "clone radio" function available in some of the RSS also works. Or, alternatively, you can use the JEDI cloning cable, use the "govt" model as the source radio, and the "fcc" model as the target radio. I have used both of these methods turning "fcc" model JT1000's into "govt" models so that you no longer need the program key.

If nothings working to enable FPP perhaps a look under the hood to see if these radios have JT1000 controllers.
