CPS on CD-RW - how to read on Win98?

I just saved the install file for CPS and my HT1250 backups on a CD-RW through a Windows Vista machine. Is there a way I can get the disk formatted correctly, or otherwise be able to be read by the Win98 machine? I haven't had any luck - the name of the CD doesn't even come across on the Win98 machine.

Does your win98 machine have a USB port? Or an SD slot? (Some did and some did not.) If it does, put the files on the smallest USB flash drive or SD card you can find and try moving the files to the Win98 machine that way.

The older PC's with USB ports and/or SD slots will read the smaller drives just fine. 512 meg or smaller should do the trick.

My Win98 computer has both USB and SD card slots so I don't bother with CD's if I need to move something to it.

As far as type of format, CD's are CD's no matter which version of Windows used to 'write' to them. It's likely your older CD drive doesn't recognize the CD-RW disc. Does it have the 'CD-RW' logo on the front of it? Even if it does, it was a bit of a crapshoot with older drives. Sometimes they need newer firmware, etc, and sometimes certain disc manufacturers just didn't want to play well on certain drives.

The USB idea is a good one, but keep in mind Win98 requires drivers for whatever USB drive you stick in...it's not 'plug-n-play' supported like it is with XP/Vista/7

Part of what I put on the CD was a driver for the USB drive I originally put CPS on.... So no, the USB drive doesn't work on the computer and it has no SD card slot.

Does your computer have a NIC port (IP) connection? If you can find the internet with the WIN98 computer, then I would suggest to connect the 2 computers together on a network and transfer the files via a CAT5 cable using a hub or switch between the computers.

If you can get one, try using an older CD that is not RW. Re-burn the files to the new disc and try loading that into the Win98 computer. RW is nice, but given the very low cost of CD's these days, not always necessary.

Does that Win98 machine have a 3.5" floppy drive that works OK?

Or a serial null modem cable and transfer through the RS-232 ports.

You need either a CDRW drive in the windows 98 computer, or you need to burn the files to a CD-R disk and close the disk. Then the drive in the windows 98 computer should be able to read it.
