Dual Control: XPR4550

Hey folks, I'm working on trouble shooting a small problem for some Connect Plus users.
They have a two-station dispatch setup in a small closet sized room. Each station has an XPR4550 sitting on a shelf in front of them (behind their computer monitor) and an RMN5050 desktop mic that they use. They're just far enough away from each other to need 2 microphones, but still close enough to cause some awful feedback when one radio keys up. They are operating on a single channel 99.9% of the time. The AGC has been turned way down, but still they're finding it next to impossible to set the volume and leave it without some field units being way too quiet or way too loud.
Are there any solutions that you folks can suggest as far as maybe running a single base station with 2 separate microphones, or a dual control head setup, or any other idea that might make them happy? Trying to avoid hacking up any cables, but if there's an easy fix to combine two mics into one port, that would be ideal.
Thanks!
