I just bought a $16.95 Chinese 1200Mah replacement battery for an old MTS2000 off of eBay. When it arrived, I placed it on the charger, and it went green after about 2 minutes. I put it on the radio, and had it turned on to a fire dispatch channel which didn't talk much, and was surprised that it started bleeping low battery after only 5 hours of intermittent receive only use.

So, I placed it on the charger, and awoke the next day to see it was still steady red. About 20 minutes later, I was actually looking at it as the red light changed to green. Well, came back 30 minutes later and it was back to red again. I know not to expect too much for $16.95, but is this battery in danger or exploding or melting on me? It wasn't even warm to the touch, but something must not be right. It is a Ni-Cd battery and I am using a NTN7209A charger which charges all my XTS3000 batteries without any issues.

So... you bought a cheap-:o Chinese battery... and you're surprised that it doesn't charge properly and will likely become a fire hazard?

Sometimes, you do get what you pay for. Buy Moto, or buy a *quality* aftermarket (there aren't many... and this definition doesn't include companies like Wiggly & Wobbly).

Yeah, just ordered a 2000Mah Moto OEM battery. I figured a battery would just be some cells strung together, they said cell origin Japan. Must have been from the area of Japan flooded during the tsunami! The battery was meant to be left in a charger in an unattended room of a business........that's not guna happen!

So much of this Chinese stuff is made solely to sell with little if any regard to function. A member here reported years back that he had a generic type battery explode while charging Personally I had a OEM gang charger let go while charging (older unit with Astec power supply which others have reported problems with also) fortunately I was in the next room and shut it down as the room filled with smoke. I no longer rapid charge anything overnite or when I'm not in the vicinity, just one man's opinion.

Japan: as in, the reject bin of a Japanese battery manufacturer. Still technically correct, but much cheaper.
