Hello, I own several Ht 1000's I was recently looking at a mts 2000.
can someone please tell me how this radio differs from the ht and can it be programmed with the ht software.

As always any help and information is greatly appreciated.

Same platform but some can do up to 255 channels , have display and securenet capability. Different software.

The HT1000 can only be programmed with an old DOS machine using RSS. However, some people can trick an older Windows machine to run in DOS. The MTS2000 programs with CPS which is used with Windows. The big advantage is the MTS is Flashport upgradable, which means any improvements over the years can be programmed into the radio. On The HT1000, the Model # can end with AN, BN, CN, & DN. Each being an improvement over the previous model. So a MTS2000 that was made in 1997 can be electronically upgraded to have the features of the most recent MTS2000. Also different features [like the options on a car] can also be electronically added to the radio. If you are just using the radios for ham radio use, or to keep in touch in the woods, you really won't notice much of a difference between older, & newer features. Hope this helps. GRY
