I have 2 xtl5000's with remote 05 heads installed in our Fire engine. One is used as the main radio and the other is dedicated to a pyramid repeater. Is there any way to connect the two remote heads together so that when I change the channel on one it changes the channel on the other?

Your not clear in the operation of the heads here. Are you saying there are 2 different radios, or there are 2 heads connected to the same radio with a Pyramid repeater also connected?

The heads get their display info from the radio. If you change the channel on one head, it should also have the same display information on the second head. If your saying the display info is different, then I would start looking for a second radio in the truck.

I have two separate radios in the truck that are programmed the same. We had to do this because when you turn on the repeater it would disable the radio for the pump operator. I would like to know if there is a way to connect the two together? The one is dedicated to the pyramid repeater. Is this possible?

I don't understand the reason why a seperate radio had to be used for the repeater. The installations I am familiar with on the Pyramid repeaters you can use either an external toggle switch to activate the repeater or you program a soft button on the XTL control head to activate it through the VIP or accessory connector on the XTL.

As far as dual heads just connect the second head to either the main radio through the second blue connector, or you can daisy chain it off the blue port on the first head. In the CPS software under the radio wide tab select the control head tab then put a check mark in the multiple control head box in the upper left hand corner. Then under the control head style select all active. This will allow you to control all radio functions from either head, including turning a repeater on or off.

The only other thing you may need to do is change the control head ID number that is programmed in the head itself. The radio needs to see a control head 1 and a control head 2 or you will get an error if they are both the same.

To change the control head ID number shut the radio off, disconnect the head from the radio, press the left most gray button and the emergency button at the same time and turn the control head on. Then rotate the channel select knob to change the control head number. Then turn off power to the head to lock the number in.

When you reconnect the head to the radio it should work as a dual head radio now.

You might want to check with Pyramid on the correct wiring procedure and if I'm not mistaken, I believe Pyramid might have a prebuilt interconnect cable for the XTL series radios
