HT1000 Only works on PSM

So a friend of mine handed me a HT1000 that only transmits proper power when using a public safety speaker mic. I confirmed no power comes out of the SMA connector on the radio itself when, of course the PSM is not connected.

I remember reading about fixing this here on Batlabs but I can't find it. Anyone have an idea?

Start by checking the RF switch plunger on the side connector. When a PSM is attached, there is a pin that pushes the plunger in, transferring RF to the mic.. Maybe yours is stuck in, which does happen at times.. I would open the radio up, and test the switch to verify operation..

and sometimes the little gold contact "collar" that slides will break in an either shorted or open condition. You might have to break out a loupe and examine it carefully. If it is broken, the only real fix is to replace the RF switch or jumper it out.

this was one of the weakest point on these radios. Those RF switch modules have a very low number of cycles before they fail. Radios that get used in and out of a JVA or have a public safety RSM removed often will develop problems with the switch alot sooner than later.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I ended up opening the radio and turns out, it was not the switch actually but rather the gold metal tab that goes to the SMA connector had become unsoldered from the board; a little solder and my soldering iron fixed that and it works great now!

glad to hear, the care and feeding of these now vintage radios is one of my favorite pastimes.
