MTR 2000 exciter/PA Range Select Jumpers?

Post by d119 »

Anyone ever figured out if there are jumpers in the MTR 2000 exciter/PA similar to that of the Quantar exciter that determine what range the station is?

I have a 100W VHF 150-174 unit, and I have it running on 146MHz but with nearly no audio deviation (PL is fine). I'm assuming this is due to a lack of tuning points below 150MHz.

I know folks have remedied issues like this on Quantar stations by changing the range select resistors in the exciter. Does anyone know of anything like this for the MTR 2000?

In other words, I'd like the station to report it's a 136-154MHz station so I can use it in the amateur band.

It CAN be done - I've already made it work with rated power & PL on 146MHz, just need to get the deviation issue sorted out.

Weird. It has PL but tx audio. Definitely sounds like an exciter problem. Obviously PL is injected someplace different than voice. I have never seen a full service manual on the MTR. Don't know if one exists. MOT kept their cards close to the vest on that model.

Indeed. I'd imagine I could open the exciter/PA up and take a look inside, but would rather do so with some education if it's been done before.

It's not that there's a "problem", this only occurs when I move the station out of it's rated bandsplit. I know what the "problem" is, I just need to find a way to tell a high-split station it's a low-split station.

All the modules talk with each other via a master/slave serial data bus. There might not even be range-select jumpers. The factory could initialize the data in the EEPROM for the module when they make it, and unless you know what to change, and make sure the command board is content with the new-found properties of the exciter, you could be asking for trouble. This same data bus goes to the PA too, probably because it has softpots/adjustments that the software deals with.
