Early Analog XTL5000 to P25 Digital - any issues??

I have an early analog only XTL5000.

I am aware of needing to use an ibutton etc to flash new firmware and to update features.

However, are there any issues in flashing a very early, say 2003, XTL5000 with a Spectra head into a full featured up to date digital P25 XTL5000.

I'm thinking in terms of maybe early XTL5000's don't have sufficient memory to upload the most up to date features etc?

Thanks

I've done it on 2005-ish radios with no issue (we're using O5 heads, though). I have noticed when upgrading that far (early Rx.xx.xx to R20.xx.xx), it seems to take longer to upgrade, so don't worry when cobwebs start to form on the chassis. Likewise, I have had them error-out/time-out a few times and I've had to start over when doing those far-reaching updates. I must say, I had a Flintstone computer at the time, so maybe something current with lots-o-features would make that a non-issue. Bottom line, you should be fine.

I picked up several older units with 4.00 FW in them, bumped up just fine. Being that the FW is below 7.0, you have to flash them with a serial cable, I did mine through the back port of the brick.

Many thanks.

Does anybody know if there is any "hardware" difference at all between an early analog XTL5000 and an up to date P25 XTL5000? I'm referring to the main brick rather than the heads and head intefaces ie. is a 2003 XTL5000 internal PCB identical to a 2013 XTL5000 PCB?

No it's not the same PCB. There have been many uprevs since then. And FYI. Every XTL5000 has the same mainboard regardless of guts. In fact the XTL2500 and XTL1500 use the same board. Only difference is the software and flash
