We still have our GR300 Repeater with the 45 watt model Gm300's, Will leaving the TX radio on a full 45 watts damage the unit?

We would love to get max output, we just do not want to damage the radios.

Thanks

Eventually....yes they will fail at high power on any band under continuous duty. I have had units that ran 7-8 years before fail and units that ran 6 months before fail at high power. GM 300 seem to be available used readily so if you had a PA fail, probably just better to swap a used unit in. If you want it to last, turn it down to 20-25 watts max and you ** probably** won't have an issue. Just make sure your antenna/duplexer/feed line situation is the best it can be .

Upgrade the fan in those old GR stations so you get the max air flow across the PA. This IS a weak point in the GR repeaters. There are some really high performance fans out there that are used by the computer people.
