Does anyone make a headset that will connect to the front round connector on the O5 control heads? I think they use the same connector on the trbo mobile radios. Does that connector even have the receive audio on it? I can not seem to find a pinout.

We are looking for a headset that we would be able to move around if we need it. We have a couple of mobile command posts and sometimes it gets hard to hear the radio. I am hoping for one I can un-hook the palm mic and plug the headset in.

I know there are systems out there that interface with the rear connector, I am hoping for something that will use the front connector.

EDIT: Just found some additional info and made changes to pin assignments

The pinouts are:

1. One-Wire (CH & TIB)
2. PTT (CH) | AUX_PTT (TIB)
3. SPK (CH) | NC (TIB)
4. USB_D-/RS232_RX (CH) | RS232_RX only (Mid-power TIB) | USB and RS232 (High-power TIB)
5. GND (CH & TIB)
6. Vbus (USB)/opt 5V (CH & TIB)
7. MIC_HI (CH) | AUX_MIC (TIB)
8. USB_D+/RS232_TX (CH) | RS232_TX only (Mid-power TIB) | USB and RS232 (High-power TIB)
9. HUB/Keyfail (CH) | Keyfail (TIB)
10. GPIO 0/PWR_ON (CH) | GPIO_0 (TIB)

Note the slightly different pin assignments between a Control Head (CH) and a Transceiver Interface Box (TIB)

So pin 3 on a CH appears to be speaker audio (I would assume SPK+ with GND being SPK- ??)

The service manual also states: "Receive audio out designed to drive 150Ω load."

I have a picture of the pin numbers but can't seem to attach it here so you'll have to forgive the ASCII-art below? They are numbered:
Where the "V" and the "<" are the little cutout lugs, but pin 1 should be marked on the connector anyway if you get lost... everybody unplug their mics and have a look now

We did the interface for the Heil headset to the Spectra radios. So it should be much the same just a different connector.

I have done many different headset to Motorola radio interfaces.

How goes the search Tim, I'm sure others here would be interested in your solution?

I dont think that there is receive audio coming out of the GCAI connector. Thats why Motorola makes you break the speaker connector to insert audio into the Telephone Handset....

I never thought so either until I went to the service manual to get the above info, but if you look at Table 9-1 (GCAI Connector Signal Descriptions) on page 9-2 of the ASTRO XTL 5000 O3/O5 Control Head Basic Service Manual (6871769L01-A) it definitely lists SPK for pin 3 for the Control Head only (J1).

The description says "Receive audio out designed to drive a 150Ω load."

Sorry for the delay, I got onto some other projects and forgot about this one.

From what all was posted, it looks promising to create something that would work from the front panel connector. Anyone know what that round connector is called or a source to get one? I suppose buying a mic might be a good way to get one if they are fully populated with pins. I don't have one here to look at to see if they are populated, or if you can actually get them apart.
