Batboard

I have a commander mic rmn5021a attached to my xts5000. When it connects to the radio or when i hit the up or down buttons, it activates the "tones on/off" menu option. Is there a setting i'm not aware of to stop this from happening?

Any ideas? I've looking everywhere for clues and haven't come up with anything yet...
