Hi All:

I have to make up a specialty cable from a mini-DIN to the 16-pin connector for a special project. Is there a special tool for crimping the wires onto the pins?

TIA,

You didn't mention which product line you're working with, however, the 16 pin accessory connector is common to Radius, Commercial, Professional and other mobiles so I'll go with what I know here. Crimping these pins requires the right die for a crimper and needs to be done very precisely so that the wires don't pull loose later on.

There is a seller named mre1032 on ebay who specializes in cables and such for these radios. He offers a bunch of ready made stuff that he builds himself plus he sells pieces like the 16 and 20 pin connector housings and wires that already have the pins properly crimped on them. I keep a small stock of this stuff on hand so I can quickly make up connections like ignition sense and external speakers. Right now he has 156 different listings on ebay. Some are specialty cables and others are components like the wires. This is a good example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Pack-Pre-Term ... 1c20b37005

His components may work for you or, if you contact him directly, I am sure he'll work with you on your custom cable.

FWIW, he's a very reliable seller. Many folks here and on other forums have purchased items from him and everyone speaks very highly of him, his products, and his sales methods. Among other things, he's a ham and a retired law enforcement officer. He's a link to a summary of his current items on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/mre1032/m.html? ... 7675.l2562
